Exploring Dutch Religion, Philosophy and Faith What does it mean to be Dutch, and what has shaped the culture and identity of the Dutch people through their religion, philosophy and faith? This article looks at the beliefs and practices that have influenced Dutch society from its earliest days, and the role they continue to play in the 21st century. The vast majority of the Dutch population are believers in Christianity and followers of Protestant denominations, specifically the Reformed Church in the Netherlands (Gereformeerde Kerk) and the Dutch Reformed Church (Nederlandsen Hervormde Kerk). The Church of the Netherlands is an independent body and claims a membership of over 6 million.
